BENCH :: Eleanor Fogg

BENCH is a new play by Greg Shewring that has been selected to debut as part of the Mayfest Off the Peg season at the Wardrobe. BENCH will be produced by Little Axe, the company that Greg co-founded five years ago. Little Axe have shown work including Left After Orbit, Scumbag and Guttermouth in Bristol and Plymouth. Off the Peg is a great opportunity for the company to gain exposure and reach a new audience through the Mayfest programme.

BENCH shows a series of moments between strangers, friends, lovers, and the same park bench. Some are funny, some awkward and some poignant. The play looks at how one location can play host to the most mundane or the most meaningful of experiences and everything in between.

BENCH will be Little Axe’s first collaboration with Bristol-based young director Eleanor Fogg, and the company also hope to work with an emerging sound designer. The play requires an ensemble cast of seven, so it will provide a great opportunity for a range of performers and creative team to be part of the platform. We’re really excited to have this chance to show what we can do, and to get other people involved.

Off the Peg does not offer any financial support and box office takings will be split. A sellout show would result in a maximum of £60 to Little Axe which will go towards props, set transport and image design. Therefore the cast and creative team for BENCH will be working voluntarily. Little Axe want to let our collaborators know that we value their time and input into this exciting project by guaranteeing a contribution towards expenses, ideally £20 each. Any amount that we can raise will enable us to offer a small contribution to each member of the team.
