dance theatre performance :: South West Dance Theatre

We are preparing an explosive extravaganza of dance theatre. In a rags-to-riches show bizz tale, a couple of ballet dancers bored with Petipa and tutus hunt down some like-minded souls to mix flavours from different dance genres and create fresh, new avant garde dance theatre, making the dull into delicious.

Amidst a riot of beatbox, bollywood, ballet shoes and frilly knickers personal elements of the story unfold. Opening with a can can and closing in a blaze of glory the overall show will be a celebration of the human experience - mad, sad, messy, beautiful – all set in the titillating world of theatre.

The event will be used to generate funds for charity, potentially the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, Jacmel Haiti Fund or Temwa. We are still in discussion as to which charity the show will support.

Potential date, Bristol to Broadway November 2012
Potential venue: Colston Hall, theatre 2
Preview: Bath to Broadway – we will be presenting some of our ideas minus a lot of the new choreography at the Mission Theatre, Friday 1st of June 8:30pm as part of the Bath Fringe Festival.

This is the longest gestation period we have had for a show. Normally we roll out a themed mixed bill cabaret every few months, giving half the box office money to charity and using the rest for overheads. We are looking for help to cover studio hire, public liability, costumes etc. We can make a little go a long way: £200 would cover a couple of months studio hire for rehearsing; £50 could get the company shoed in New Yorkers, and help avoid broken ankles and chin splints, £300 would fund the venue hire for a centrally located theatre etc.

At South West Dance Theatre we have succeeded in our aims so far: to provide opportunities for local artists, create exciting new theatre for our audiences and support local charities. But we are now in need of funds to help move the company to the next level.
Among our outreach activities we provide open company classes for the general public. These are held on Monday evenings, 8-9pm at Fitness 4 Less in the Pithay opposite Nelson Street car park by Broadmead. Classes are £5 for one, £20 for 6 and alternate between classical ballet and contemporary from week to week.
